Arrigo Sacchi believes Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi must replicate his form and style of play for Italy in the future.
The former AC Milan coach gave his thoughts on the 24-year-old midfielder in his column published today in the print edition of Milanese newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
It is now widely accepted that Frattesi is a more established starter in Italy than at Inter.
The 24-year-old has featured regularly for the Azzurri since his time at Sassuolo.
After establishing himself in Serie A with the Neroverdi, Frattesi began to gain the trust of then-Italian coach Roberto Mancini.
And under Mancini’s successor, Luciano Spalletti, Frattesi became even more important.
The Inter midfielder is the player who seems to set the tone for Italy’s direct and intense style of play.
Frattesi is a midfielder who generally seeks to attack opposing defenses from midfield.
The 24-year-old is not a methodical player. He will look to take risks in his runs, whether with or without the ball.
Sacchi: “Davide Frattesi must do this more”
Frattesi’s biggest impact tends to come in the final third.
The 24-year-old is the player who comes into the final third and wreaks havoc on opposing defences.
This was the case at Sassuolo, for Italy, and in Frattesi’s most notable appearances as a substitute for Inter.
Sacchi The Italian coach analysed Italy’s performance against France on Friday. “These youngsters showed that they play on all pitches, they are capable of causing problems for the opponent.”
“I saw a lot of cohesion between the lines,” he wrote of Italy’s victory over France. “And the players were always helping each other.”
“Frattesi “He should be used in that role,” says the former Milan and Italy coach.
“He’s a very good offensive player, and that’s how he has to play. He understands the game and knows how to move depending on the position of his teammates.”
