Legendary Real Madrid full-back Marcelo recently sat down with TNT Sports for an interview, where he talked about all things Real Madrid.
The former player said he was excited about the potential of Real Madrid’s attacking line, now strengthened by the arrival of Kylian Mbappé, who joined Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes.
Marcelo in the front line of Real Madrid
“Vinicius has two Champions Leagues, Rodrygo has two, and now Mbappé is here too” he noted, highlighting Real Madrid’s explosive attacking trio.
With Mbappe now part of the squad, the former Madridista has set his expectations high: “They’ll win three or four more. It’s over, man.”
Marcelo is considered one of the best full-backs to ever play for Real Madrid. He played for the club between 2007 and 2022.
During his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, Marcelo won five Champions League titles and appeared in almost 550 competitive matches.
Marcelo on the race for the Ballon d’Or
The legend didn’t just predict the path Real Madrid would take. He also had strong opinions on the Ballon d’Or race, believing that one of the Madridistas should win the coveted prize.
“The Ballon d’Or? They’ll give it to Vinicius, that’s for sure.” Marcelo seemed confident that the winger’s influence on the pitch and his exceptional performances would be enough to earn him the coveted award.
However, he expressed his disappointment at Rodrygo’s exclusion from the list of nominees for this year’s Ballon d’Or.
“Rodrygo was left out, I didn’t understand that either” he lamented, highlighting the striker’s crucial contributions during the previous campaign.
“People don’t know the criteria. I think they made a mistake. Rodrygo, for me, should at least be among the top 15 or 10 players in the world.he concluded.
Marcelo is not the only personality to support Rodrygo after his refusal. Recently, former FC Barcelona superstar Neymar even supported the Brazilian, considering him one of the five best players in the world.
