It took Matt Wallace 73 holes to end a six-year drought.
The 34-year-old, who won his first PGA Tour title in 2023, did not have a good year in the United States, finishing 112th in the FedEx Cup standings and missing the playoffs.
If his offseason goal was to turn things around, he’s off to a great start.
Wallace won the 2024 Omega European Masters on Sunday at Golf Club de Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland, ending a six-year winless streak on the DP World Tour. Wallace led all week but had to play extra holes against Alfredo Garcia-Heredia to earn his fifth DP World Tour victory.
“I was exhausted, it was a tough day,” Wallace said. “It wasn’t easy, but I felt like there was a score to be made, but I couldn’t get anything going.”
Wallace made par Sunday, but Garcia-Heredia birdied the final hole to reach 11 under and tie Wallace for a playoff spot. Both players’ tee shots found the fairway, but Wallace blocked his approach and made the birdie putt.
Andrew Johnston, better known as Beef, achieved his best result in four years, placing third.
