Taylor Fritz hopes to add his name to the very short list of Americans who have won a Grand Slam title in the 21st century. Andre Agassi (Australian Open 2001, 2003), Pete Sampras (US Open 2002) and Andy Roddick (US Open 2003) are the only Americans to have won major singles tournaments since the turn of the century. Standing in Fritz’s way to the 2024 US Open final is world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
While Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic have been more talked about, Sinner has largely held his own this season, with five wins this season, including the Australian Open and Cincinnati Open before the US Open. Sinner eliminated Jack Draper in three sets in the semifinals to advance and Fritz eliminated fellow American Frances Tiafoe en route to the final. With the win, Sinner would become the first Italian to win two Grand Slams in a year.
